Let's Play Pretend

Hi people! I pledged to myself to blog more regularly this year, but honestly, I’ve been finding writing a little bit hard lately. The ideas are there, in plenty, but I just somehow cannot get myself to write. But enough about my writing woes! I’m really excited about today’s post as I’ve always looked forward to hosting a guest writer on my blog. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when the opportunity brought itself up. We constantly are encouraged to become better beings so today’s post gives us a rather fresh perspective on how to go about the whole ‘bettering-oneself’ business. Always ready with a kind word for everyone and an amazing writer in her own stead, ladies and gentlemen, Denise…

Sunglasses on, a hammock beneath the well worn jeans that snuggly fit your bosom and your favorite t-shirt. This book you just read has some elaborate yet thought provoking and mystifying poetry. Wide eyed and bewildered, you enter into the world painted by the poet. Seemingly, it feels like you, of all the self-inserted characters in this poem, are struggling to break free from the hurt that has been endeared to the characters by the poet, who in well-meaning honesty, tries to describe the marred flaws in his society.

I love a good read that not only puts someone in a trance per se, but also generally lifts ones spirits up and leads one into a world so different from where they stand. Well, that's not the point of my post. The point is there are so many ways we get fixated on being just who we are and in the process forget how to live. You see, true living requires a good measure of daring to be, being brave - a force to reckon with. For some, it's a natural occurrence due to years of someone believing in them. For others though, it's a whole different story; they have to fake it till they make it. They have to believe in themselves even if it means pretending to be someone they want to be, albeit in a creative manner in that, one may never know what they are going through, a result of the charade they effortlessly act. Somehow, in all honesty, that is what most artists, creators, inventors, dreamers and action takers do. Their reality as successful people started as a farce in the sense that whatever they envisioned was but a mere choice to act into who they currently are.

To us grown ups, it may sound a little too loony, but until we have a pep-talk with our inner selves to bring out our flairs, heck, even get imaginary friends to speak to if all options fail, some of our gifting may go to waste. Just like a toddler with hardly any playmates makes up imaginary friends, you need to do something to let your creativity get the airplay it so much deserves. Pretend, believe and act as if it were true. Eventually those pieces you are searching for will fall into place and create a masterpiece of truly what living is all about.

If you look around our world, especially the ordinary you and me scenarios, you're sure to find a number of people who take time to pretend in order to get more recognition. We could use a less harsh word instead of pretend - believe. They that have faith that they can be the greatest in all they do - well, those and they that profess and walk as though they are already in their heyday - are the ones that really are living. As Og Mandino famously declared, you are the best salesperson in this world! Dare to believe in yourself. Those weird ideas in your head, yes, project them! They might be the ones that help encourage another stranded soul out there.

So, my dear friends have the chutzpah to pretend today. Pretend to be someone infectious, nice, worth spending time with. Someone that can change mundane ideologies to productive actions. The kind of pretender that does more right than wrong - more good than bad. Such pretenders that I’d be glad walking and living amongst. Happy, upbeat, pretense people.

Denise also runs her very own blog, so kindly head over to denisetuyi.wordpress.com for more on her nifty look on life :-)
